This was our “Happy Wedding Anniversary” weekend celebration! The actual day…..April 27th. What a wonderful 6 years I have had with my gentle husband!
We went to our absolute favorite restaurant, The Nutty Pear, for dinner Saturday night. This restaurant is in an old, old, log cabin. There are new additions for the kitchen and a larger eating area but we love sitting in the original part which has such a low ceiling and is intimately dark and cozy. I had hoped to get some shots inside but I would have had to use my flash and I didn’t want to deserve anyone else’s cozy dinner.
You have to duck to get in the door. The first time we went there, we were half afraid to go in…..silly us!
We had a lovely 2 hour meal………starting with Scallops Casino…….then a wonderfully fresh dark greens salad……..on to the main course……Twin Beef Filets with blue cheese on top. We finished with a slice of Peanut Butter Pie drizzled with dark chocolate (we shared one) and coffees……John’s with Irish Cream…….mine with Frangelica. Oh, what a fabulous evening!
On Sunday, we picked up our “Anniversary” tree…… a Coral Bark Japanese Maple……Acer palmatum ‘Sango Kaku’. The bark is a reddish salmon color that is supposed to really stand out in the winter landscape. Emerging leaves are a light green edged in pink turning a medium green in summer. I saw two different descriptions of Fall color so I’ll have to let you know……
The other thing we did today was place the arbor we purchased from a store going out of business late last fall. We had it store on the back of the porch all winter. We are embarking on a big project this summer with the front yard…….yard being the “non-descriptive” word. It is baked clay actually and will be eventually covered with raised flower and veggie beds, paths, a canopy (at least for summer), and a small water feature. I have no idea how long this will take but I’ll have show and tell as I go!
The arbor will be the entrance to the path through the woods….
…..actually, it will be the transition between the sunny side and the shady side of the path.
It was a most perfect weekend to celebrate our marriage doing things we both like to do….eat, garden, and dream…….but most importantly, we reflected on our wonderful life together and how blessed we are to have found each other.
