Just a little kitchen tour……

I don’t love my kitchen but I like it more now that the disappointment has worn off.

When we built the house, I wanted a distressed dark green cabinet but it was 3x the budget allowed :-(. So, I went with Hickory. They were supposed to have a lot more of the darker striations in them….but when they came, they were just light….not interesting at all.

So, until I can fit a custom paint job into my budget…I deal with the tan…ugh…cabinets and black appliances.

Actually, the cabinet under the microwave is the darkest but still not like the show room. EeeGads, I really need to edit that area!

Did you notice the birdhouse hanging in the window? Here’s a close up…..
img_0298.jpg

I bought it from Donna’s Etsy Shop…..Whimsy Two. I think it looks so sweet hanging in my window.

Just one more picture……

I was taking a picture of the “stuff” and noticed after I put it on the computer how pretty the sky looked through the front door…..much better than the “stuff” 🙂

  6. Your kitchen is really very nice, but I understand how that whole “disappointment factor” can change our perspective! We are just in the beginning stages of a whole kitchen re-do…oh, sheesh…wish us luck!!

  7. I know how you feel I think…we had such a strict budget that I had to go with counters and flooring that are not what I wanted. They are serviceable but I long for something else. Maybe soon…next year Bill says. : )

That said, I LOVE your kitchen. The colors and the way you have put it all together. I adore your little touches everywhere…roosters. I LOVE roosters! And I love the black appliances!
I wish I had done mine in black!
Thank you for showing us. I loved it all.

The view you have…that beautiful sky, yes, it is worth everything isn’t it??

    Have a sweet weekend!!

    Hugs,
    Sue

  8. Just because you are on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t have what you want! Can’t you paint the cabinets yourself? If you need any tips on how, just ask me, I’d be happy to give you some direction.

Your kitchen is really pretty as it is, and I like the cabinets and what a wonderful nuetral background they make for all of your things. But I know how you feel. It is really attractive, but not the way you intended!!

  9. Love your kitchen Rosie and your new “look” as well.

    Janet

  10. Your home is beautiful. What a lovely blog………

  11. I think the dark roosters flanking the sink above the cabinets really punch up your kitchen nicely…. I laughed when you said you needed to “edit” an area… I do that all the time after I take a picture … then see it on the computer ..it doesn’t look the same….
    I love you kitchen…. so put together…
    Linda

  12. I love your kitchen! It is so much fun seeing what everyone else’s homes look like! : ) The chickens are great…and I love the birdhouse! I have several of them hanging around the house, too! Thanks for sharing!

  14. Hi Rosie,
Your kitchen is great! Like a cozy farm kitchen. Love all the roosters and the colors red and yellow. Also love the birdhouse, tee hee.
    Have a wonderful weekend!

    Donna

  15. Rosie, I think your kitchen looks lovely! It has a warm and cozy look to it.
Perhaps the cabinets wood will darken a little with time? I guess you could pickle the wood with a green stain eventually. Think of it as a work in progress! \
I have black appliances in my kitchen, too. I wasn’t sure if I’d like them, but they are easier to keep clean 🙂

    Have a great weekend!
    Hugs,
    Pat

  18. Oh Rosie, I am loving your kitchen! Do I spy a red coffee maker? Oh I SO need one of those now! In my last home we had plain kitchen cupboards…(nothing like yours, I think that yours look fantastic like they are) but it took me about 8 years and then I attacked them with dark hunter green paint! I loved it 🙂 What a beautiful kitchen you have and those roosters are just calling to me!

    Hugs,
    Dena

  19. I love your kitchen, it is so cozy and comfy. I really do! Love th peak of sky thru the door!

  21. Hi Rosie!
Oh, I think your kitchen is lovely! I love all the roosters and the fridge pocket.. so practical! (and beautiful!) I’ll swap cabinets with you! Mine are a green and I would love them to be lighter! 🙂 Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

  22. Hi–again–I love roosters and chickens too (actually yesterday I received a rooster antique canister from ebay)….I went to this thing called Cursillo–a christian weekend retreat–and for its symbol they use the rooster. Anyways, love all your chickens and rooster stuff, love your splashes of red, and birdhouse and nests, and the view out your door. GREAT. I agree with you on the cupboards.—-it would look more cottage-like if they were painted—guess it just depends on the look you are after. My kitchen is tiny tiny–but opens up to a casual dining area with fireplace so I really don’t mind. I find it really handy to have a small kitchen because everything is only a step away. The main problem is–no pantry—I end up using various closets (which we have a very limited space –this house was built in the 40s). ANyways—thanks for showing some of your house—I love looking it it and seeing your homey touches and the yellow and reds—you are a person after my own heart 😉

  23. Hi Rosie,

What a lovely kitchen…..love the toile and your chosen colors!

Your blog is wonderful….very inspiring! I’ll visit often!

  24. Rosie, I should be so lucky to have a kitchen that size. Wow, it’s so lovely and homey.

    Cathy

  25. Hi Rosie,
I’m playing catch-up with everyone’s posts…Love your kitchen! We have the same colors, and share a love of roosters and chickens. How nice to have that beautiful view in a room where you do so much work!

Love your new header and blog colors!
    xoxo,
    Mary

  26. Hi Rosie,
I’m trying to catch up again this morning. If I miss one day visiting I miss so much! Like your kitchen!! So homey!! I do know how you feel about living with things you aren’t crazy about. There was so much we had to do to our old house so we had to “settle” in some areas with things I’m not crazy about because of budget. I even have 2 different kinds of upper and lower cabinets but we painted them to match which helped. Most people don’t even notice that they are different unless we point it out! You kinda get used to living with things too and don’t pay as much attention to them!

You have such beautiful things in your kitchen that I didn’t notice the cabinets first. See, “stuff” helps!! LOL

    Hugs,
    Hope

  27. Your kitchen looks so warm and cozy. You have turned it into a perfect space.
I’ll be back for a glass of sweet tea!

  28. Your kitchen is sweet and seems to be full of treasures you love. What can be better than that? I love the organizer on your kitchen door. Whay a great way to add a splash of fabric to the fridge!

  29. Oh I’m late I’m late to all the fun! You have such a wonderful kitchen! Full of loveliness and charm and personality! I adore it!

    Thanks for sharing!
    xoxo

  30. I like your kitchen too, all those roosters look so at home!
    Rose
