Have you ever heard the saying about planting vines and climbing roses…..
“First year they sleep, second year they creep, third year they leap”
I wish I could find pictures of the first year at the house…..thank goodness I blog now so I have archives! This climbing Hydrangea was planted the first summer this is now the fourth. Last year it really leapt …..this year it should reach the roof!
I never had a problem with Japanese Beetles until last year. It dessimated the vine and my Hollyhocks. I’ve read now that the best way to eradicate the problem is to just start plucking them off….putting them into an empty coffee can to kill them. The traps only encourages more and then once they lay their larvae in the soil you are in trouble. Well, I am in for trouble this year but I am ready to start plucking those nasty buggers as soon as I see them this year! It’s war!!!!

Thursday will be an all day gardening day…..except for around lunch time when I should be getting a call from the pregnant one letting me know if baby cooperated and let them see at the sonogram whether it’s a boy or girl. 😉 I probably won’t sleep tonight! ((hugs)) Rosie

Oh, I hope baby cooperates! Some of my grandchildren did and some didn’t. This grandma said they were just being modest! Or stubborn!

I am so jealous of your climbing hydrangea, tried that more than once, could not get it to grow. Too dry. It will be spectactular! Love the dogwood, one of my all time favorite trees. Barberry and yellow pansy that’s da bomb!

I’ve never heard the saying about creeping plants. Good luck with the Japanese beetles. I didn’t realize that the traps only encourage them. Let us know about the bambino.

Hope you got a lot of work done in your woods …I wanna live in the woods, too!! And have a porch! I don’t like living in town…but we’ve always done it. Bill was gone from home so much during the time I was raising kids and I was scared of my shadow…now, I’m not scared of the devil himself so I am ready to move to the country. 🙂

We have a fountain right outside our front door on a small patio. I planted a vine there a couple of years ago and wow has it taken off! It’s now covered a little more than 1/2 of the trellis I put up! Thanks for sharing your with us!

I have that dogwood variety too. I totally agree about those japanese beetle traps. I stopped using them years ago. Now I just go and pick them off.
